Lou is a qualified (level 3) Pilates instructor.  She began practising Pilates in 2000 following a hip injury and quickly realised the multiple benefits obtained from regular pilates practice. Her keen interest in health and wellbeing complements her instructing skills and ability to encourage clients to maintain and progress their personal level of fitness.


Due to Lou's qualifications and experience of teaching various styles of exercise, her sessions provide a very dynamic approach to improving overall health and fitness.

Lou's work primarily focuses on Pilates instruction, though she is also a personal trainer, exercise to music instructor and is qualified to teach other Yoga and Stretch based programmes.  In addition to Pilates instruction, Lou trains clients to improve their cardiovascular fitness and muscular strength and tone through various conditioning classes and one to one sessions.  


Lou has experience of working with a wide range of clients including the elderly, athletes, dancers, individuals suffering with neurological conditions, back problems, pelvic floor conditions and postural issues.  Over the last few years in addition to Lou's private and gym based work, she has worked for York City Council providing classes for their Engage and HEAL programmes.  As a qualified GP/ Exercise referral instructor she is familiar with dealing with a wide range of common health conditions.  Anyone attending a class is assessed as an individual and advised accordingly. Lou works closely with her clients and in some cases their physiotherapist or other health professionals to ensure appropriate selection of exercises for the individual.  



Class and private tuition is available.  If working on a one to one basis, Lou will constantly review and discuss with the client their short and long term objectives to ensure that sessions are appropriately tailored to suit the needs of the individual.


Lou works across York in various gyms and leisure centres, in addition to providing private classes at venues based in Woodthorpe, Heworth and Osbaldwick.

Lou is always keen to ensure that clients obtain the maximum benefit from her sessions, and as such is keen to discuss individual concerns or goals.  Where appropriate Lou will always provide alternative exercises/ adaptations for individual clients within a class environment. Many clients have found that sessions have helped them to manage various medical conditions and injuries.  Sports orientated clients have often seen a great improvement in their performance and reduction in sport related injuries since practising regular pilates.
